Play for Humanity – Sport and Music for All
Area (ha)

Considering that Specialised Expo 2027 in Belgrade will be the first ever Expo organised in the region of the Western Balkans, hosting it will allow Serbia to bring the world's much-deserved attention to this region of Southeast Europe. Expo 2027 Belgrade will make both the host country and the broader region more visible on the world map, bringing numerous benefits to the surrounding countries and economies.

Expo 2027 Belgrade is an opportunity for the world to see the real potential of the region. It will showcase that Serbia is not only keeping up with the latest global trends in infrastructure, tourism, science, technology, artificial intelligence etc., but also that it has the capacity to be the leader in such domains.

The Expo site is set to be an innovative and modern exhibition complex that, for three months in 2027, will welcome more than 2.6 million visitors and over 120 participating countries. In addition to engaging in the main activities of the Expo, international participants will also organise cultural programmes and events, which will be available to tens of thousands of people every day.

In these globally challenging times, Serbia’s hope is that Expo 2027 Belgrade will commence a bright new chapter of history marked by harmony, friendship, and celebration.

Play for Humanity – Sport and Music for All

The theme, "Play for humanity: Sport and Music for All", was designed with the purpose of exploring the ways in which humanity can use the power of play for building resilience of individuals and communities in a world full of insecurities.

Play is perceived as a superpower of the future, enabling humans to create, innovate and grow. The proposed theme has been further developed into sub-themes to allow international participants to present themselves in the best possible way with ideas and solutions that give answers to the defined problem statement:

  • How to prepare the human body, mind, and logic for a technology-led world full of insecurities and make humans more resilient for the coming decades?

The theme will allow Expo 2027 Belgrade to be the largest celebration of global recovery shaped by the power of play and embellished with music and sport.

The Expo site concept is a part of an Urban Masterplan Complex, including a new National Stadium with a 52,000-person capacity, a Retail Complex, an Aquatic centre and the Expo City Living Complex. All these elements are unified with a central urban landscaped promenade.

The Expo site design concept is based around providing an "Urban Oasis" which would become the key urban destination for tourists, Expo visitors and city dwellers, further adding to its green agenda.

A series of permanent Exhibition Halls will be arranged along the central Urban Street, covered and naturally ventilated, culminating in a monumental circular plaza, housing the main Theme Pavilions and the national pavilion of Serbia – the focal points and architectural icons within the overall complex.

A free-flowing and luscious landscaped public realm will be created for an abundance of experiences, aligned with the proposed Expo theme.

About Belgrade

At the confluence of the Sava and Danube River, Belgrade is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Europe and the world and has, for centuries, been a meeting point among different civilisations.

With numerous annual international cultural events and its vibrant nightlife, as well as its striking nature, Belgrade is a common stop on the Rivers Route, European cycling route and the Sultans Trail, a long-distance hiking footpath between Vienna and Istanbul.
